Howdy folks, I was thinking of moving from New Mexico back to Texas and saw a good opening at a company in Midland. They say they do hair follicle tests to drug screen their applicants...... no big deal, I don't do any illicit drugs. However, they also say that they won'd hire any users of tabacco and that anyone who has used tabacco within the past 30 days is not eligible for employment. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a regular smokers. However, I do enjoy a cigar or evan an occasional cigarette when I'm at the bars with my buds. Do most labs even offer a test for tabacco products? If so, don't they test back to 90 days, I was pretty sure that 3 months was the benchmark for these tests so why does the company say that any smoking outside of 30 days is OK? I'm just a little bit shocked by this, I have never at any point in my life felt that using tabacco could affect my employment... I guess its time to quit for good (wont be that hard since I never even really "started", its just been a rare thing I do for the past 3 years or so). PS, I put this in politics because this is one of the most densely populated sections on YA. @Luv2answer: This isn't an insurance application, its an application for employment. The insurance company is the one who would take the hit in that situation, and that's why insurance companies have separate health tests that are separate from employers. The type of business is oil and gas production. I'd say at least 75% of my pumpers at my current company are heavy users of some form of tobacco. How this company in Midland functions is beyond me.... Read More »
